Esta Semana

Olá,

We passed a lot of Former investigators in Montijo this week, one of them was not to happy to see us, we just wanted to know if the person still lived there so after talking with him we knocked on his neighbor´s door they didn't answer then he came out and yelled at us like crazy threatening to call the police, we quickly left.

At Dinner with the Souza´s family they had a really good meal with Rice and meat and Salad. I ate one plate, thought i could stop here but it was good so i got another, then another then another then i was pretty full and just wanted to eat a little more, Then Sister Sousa said i will just give you the rest! She pilled on the rest of the rice and 4 slices of meat. I barely got it all down and thought almost threw up, haha.

After we arrived in Pinhal Novo we realized we forgot the map at the house...We decided to pass a member who lived close by to where we were , we couldn't find the address, so we decided to try to get a new map, we asked a lady close by where we could get one and she said the Junta Fraquesia (like the government for the city) is right there, like 20 yards away but it closes at 5, it was 4:59 so we hurried over there and asked for a map and they gave us 2! It was such a blessing we would have been lost that day!

After District meeting we had divisions i stayed in Barreio with Elder Brazell we had a great day and taught 5 lessons, he said it was the best day of work that they had had in that area for the past 2 transfers!

Saturday we returned to Pinhal Novo when we got off the bus and started walking to our appointment we heard someone yelling behind us, "Os Elderes!" so we stopped and talked to here she said that her family are members and that they recently move here from Switzerland and didn't know where the church was here so we gave then the information and they were so happy to find us! Then we taught Claudia the Plan of Salvation and Wesley the Restoration they both really liked the lessons and accepted baptism when they received the confirmation that it is true.

Saturday night in Pinhal Novo we had some appointments fall through, we had about an hour left so we decided we would pass some people that weren't home earlier. We were crossing the train tracks in an underpass when we saw a one legged man named Peter slowly pushing himself backwards in a wheel chair, I offered to help push him, I pushed him to the elevator then said where next? He said more then a kilometer. He was a foreigner and just spoke a little English and just pointed where to go but i pushed him for about 1.5 kilometers/1 Mile until we had to go back to catch the bus. It was a big help for him it would have taken him a long time to return home.

Pinhal Novo

Olá,

This week we have been following up with a lot of pesquisadores that the sisters left and Ex pesquisadors and we have dropped a ton of people haha We did find a guy named Peter who is from Nepal so we teach him in English, we taught him the Restoration and explained the Book of Mormon and he was super interested by it.

We worked in Pinhal Novo two days this week. It is a super cool area and we have really enjoyed working there. Saturday we went with our ward mission leader Valter and talked with the Azvedo Family about the work in Pinhal Novo. They fed us Casupa, it was super good!

The Branch has a correlation meeting every Sunday after church to discuss the Europe area plan that has 3 parts the first one is to bring a friend to church or a church activity so every Sunday the members talk about the friends that they have been talking with about the church. We should receive lots of referrals soon.

We had an appointment fall through on Saturday in Pinhal Novo so we decided to walk in a direction we hadn’t been before, make some contacts then return and try again. We were about to turn back when we saw a lady walking the other direction and decided to talk to her before turning back. We started talking to Catalina she said she was in a hurry and started walking away then I asked her what will happen to her family after death then she stopped and we started to explain a little bit of the plan of salvation then started talking about The Book of Mormon and she was super interested about the other testament of Jesus Christ! We are looking forward to our lesson with her.

Novo Area

Olá,

Monday night we passed Diana, Katia and Frances I left with them my testimony that i know 100% that Jesus Christ called Joseph Smith to be his prophet to restore his true church once again on the earth and that I know 100% that the Book of Mormon is true. It was a good way to leave Almada.

Tuesday I  packed up and left Almada for Vasco da Gama arrived here on a 45 minute bus ride (unfortunately they don't have metros of trains that pass here). The Vasco Da Gama Branch is actually in the city of Montijo but it is called that because of the Vasco Da Gama bridge, the longest bridge in Europe that ends here. We also have 2 more cities called Pinhal Novo and Alcochete.

The Sisters we emergency transferred out of the Area last transfer because they were in a dangerous situation The Branch is excited to have Elders again, A new ward mission leader was called on Sunday so we really have a fresh start here. With the White Wash we have been spending a lot of time with the Area Book and calling people on the phone

When we arrived we tried to call the branch president and set up a meeting with him but realized that our phone said, No SIM card, it had one but was not reading it, Wednesday we had to return to the mission office to get a new phone a 6 hour round trip haha.

Fortunately, the Sisters left the house cleaner than any other missionary house i have seen, such a blessing. Our apartment actually feels like a house instead of a missionary house.

Thursday we were looking for an address when we walked by a cafe and saw a guy hanging out there, We usually don't talk to people at cafe´s but his face lit up so i decided to talk to him. He said that he had met with the Sisters a few months ago, so we set an appointment with him for Saturday. When we went to see him we accidentally walked around the wrong side of a big fenced-in school when we realized we turned back to go the other way. When we were nearing up on his house he comes walking down the street the other way to his house, Perfect timing! We then entered and taught his family, wife and three daughters about the family the proclamation to the world. They are super cool is was a miracle that we found them!

Our Branch has about 40-45 active members the goal is to get it to 60 and become a Ward in a few months.

Elder Alpizar is Mexican and is from Lehi, UTAH he is the Mexican version of my Uncle Taylor. We are both super excited to be working in this area!

Até Proximo.

Vasco da Gama

Olá,

After challenging Marcos to read and pray about The Book of Mormon and promising him that if he sincerely did he would receive an answer we ran into him 3 times on the road this week. Heavenly Father is telling him that the church is true!

Katia and Francis fed us Casupa for dinner, it is a Soup from Cape Verde it was super good, after we watched the Book of Mormon video of the Bishop from London and testified we marked them for the 22 of July!

Thursday the Elders of Miratejo had 2 appointments so we went to teach Tiago about prophets and explained that living prophets speak with God and receive revelation that will help guide us in our lives, we explained how Joseph Smith was called of God, then read the first vision, the spirit was super strong and Saturday he was baptized!

Elder Fisk had a baptismal interview in Seixal after as we were leaving and crossing the road in front of the chapel, Paulo was driving by at the crosswalk at the same time and said "Oi os Elders!" we had talked to him a few days earlier in Cova da Piedade, We couldn't believe that we ran into him there. Different Area. That day. That road- that time, haha!

With Elder Carreira we called all of our references, but Elder Fisk felt inspired that we should do it again, we found Diana and have taught her a few times, last week she read from 1 Nephi 8 to Alma 2 in the Book of Mormon! She is awesome!

After passing 30+ times over the past 3 transfers here in Almada we found a less active member, Rosalina in her house Saturday Morning, we couldn't believe it.

I bore my testimony in Sacrament meeting about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and The Book of Mormon, knowing that it would probably be my last week here, at the end of the meeting Gisela, our investigator went up to the pulpit and talked about the feelings that she has had as she has listened to our message and the testimonies that day and said "It just feels true!"

Elder Fisk will stay and train in Almada and will baptize a lot this month, I will head to Vasco da Gama with Elder Alpizar, we will be white washed! He will be my first companion that is younger than me in the mission (by 3 months). It is still in the Miratejo Zone and the Setúbal Stake, I am excited for a new area!

Até mais.
